I have been away from my blog for far too long! Here are a few projects I’ve done since my last post.
I’m back! I took off more than a month of blogging due to just needing a break. Also, we got a puppy! Olive Oyl, a red merle Australian Shepherd, joined us in early January. She has taken up a little more (how bout all?) of our free time than we expected, but she is a fun addition to our household.
Also in January:
My nana in Ohio passed away. Not an unexpected event (she was nearly 93), but very sad nonetheless. I lived down the street from her most of my childhood, and actually lived with her for a summer in college when my family moved to Florida. She had a huge influence on my creative hobbies, and we spent many afternoons painting together until I moved away. Our family is heading up to Michigan this June for a memorial/reunion in her honor.
We gained another nephew! Brennan Thomas was born on January 28 and is absolutely precious.
I also started a new hobby (embroidery), hosted a baby shower, finished some freelance projects, and made some yummy new recipes. Blog posts to come.
Sorry there has been an extreme lack of posts lately. I am working on several craft projects, but they all happen to be top-secret birthday gifts for my two nephews and niece…tutorial posts will be available in mid-May, after they have all received them. T and I have also concocted several delicious recipes, but they need some tweaking before sharing. What I CAN do, is share some of my favorite blogs. Here are my top 5 (in no particular order):
This blog is written by cutie Elsie Larson. Even her name is cute. She writes about outfits, food, beauty, photography, decor, and also creates DIY projects.
Kendi posts creative outfit combinations nearly everyday (thus the name). They are very inspiring when you are in a “I have no clue what to wear today!!” rut.
I love the color orange. So does Jessica Jones, the blogger who created How About Orange. Subjects she writes about include: DIY tutorials, free downloads, time wasters, and other random things. She also has designed some very funky fabrics that I would be happy to add to my collection.
Somewhere Splendid’s main focus is entertaining. Party themes, decor, treats and more. Beautiful pictures showcase parties that I can’t even imagine being invited to. There are also a decent amount of posts about interesting objects, artwork, and recipes.
A very trendy girl named Amy Moss is the author of this blog, which centers around style, DIY, printables, entertaining, weddings, food, and more. And she’s Australian. Which is just cool.
That’s it for today, but please feel free to post a comment with any of your favorite blogs. I’m always looking for more to add to my list.
One year and 72 posts later, my blog has been exactly what I wanted it to be. A place to organize creative thoughts, share ideas and recipes, and post photos from projects throughout the year. A few of my favorite posts:
Zucchini Tomato Casserole 1/21/11
Fairhope Find 3/21/11
My Version of Animal Print 8/20/11
Diaper Burp Cloth Tutorial 11/18/11
Here’s to a new year of CREATIVEhew!
Making homemade apple butter has been a holiday season tradition in my family for many years. It is a great project to do while watching a favorite Christmas movie or while trimming the tree, and makes the whole house smell glorious. You can use more or less sugar and spices to create your favorite blend. Yesterday’s batch filled 5 small jars and 2 medium. Best on toast, in pastries, or even on a peanut butter sandwich.
Please visit my sister’s wonderfully local and adorable blog, http://girlabouttownpensacola.wordpress.com/. Check it out if you’ve always wondered about some of the local dives and shops around Pensacola, but were too weary to try them without a recommendation.
L’s description of her blog: “A local’s peek into life in Pensacola, FL.” I love the close ups of food and details not normally noticed while visiting some of these locations.
Check out T’s new blog, http://playitcoolboy.wordpress.com/. The logo is especially impressive. ;)
Young House Love is a blog created by Sherry and John, a 20-somethings couple who have tackled the art of well designed house projects with little previous experience and a small budget. The blog is a documentary of sorts, but also features how-tos and money saving tips.
I love checking this blog for updates every few days and to watch their progress as they re-vamp a brick home they recently purchased in Virginia. Sherry and John have written dozens of articles so far on remodeling, painting, DIY, furniture makeovers, organization and many other topics. Their design style is very similar to ours, so I am constantly drooling over their color and layout ideas. They are also big proponents of purging unnecessary stuff that builds up in closets and cabinets over time. I must say this is something we are trying in our house – a constant job yet oh so gratifying!
I hope some of you are just as inspired as I was by this blog I admire.(Photos by John and Sherry Petersik)
